| AltaVista Translation |
|
AltaVista Translation (which they call "Babel Fish") enables you to translate short passages of text or entire Web sites among 19 pairs of languages (for example, English to Spanish, or French to German). Just type the text you wish to translate into the translation box (up to 150 words), or enter the address for the web page you wish to translate.
AltaVista translates individual Web pages up to 5K. When you click a link in a translated page, the linked page is also automatically translated.
As an automatic translator, AltaVista works best when the text you wish to translate uses proper grammar. Slang, misspelled words, poorly placed punctuation and complex or lengthy sentences can all cause a page to be translated incorrectly. Expect AltaVista to allow you to grasp the general intent of the original, not to produce a polished translation.
