Newton Art Association 60th Annual Awards Show
Reception: Wednesday, September 9, 7:00 pm

By: F. Grossman

The Newton Art Association (NAA) will hold its 60th Annual Awards Show in September. Original works by 70 of the Association’s members will be exhibited including paintings, photographs, sculpture and ceramics. Additionally, art work will be exhibited in the 5 standing display cases on the first and second floors of the library.

A free, public reception will be held on Wednesday, September 9 at 7:00 pm at which the prestigious Eugene G. Faucher Award will be presented. The award is dedicated to well-known artist and NAA member, Gene Faucher, who served four terms as the NAA’s President and is the longest active member in the Association. Mr. Faucher is a Master Artist in watercolor, pastel and calligraphy. During his 60 years in the Association, he has shown great leadership and dedication in leading workshops, giving demonstrations and instituting the Association’s popular “member critique nights.” The Mollie L. and Henry Schoenberg Award, the Dr. and Mrs. Leslie Russell Award and the Newton Art Association Endowment Awards will also be presented.

The Newton Art Association was first organized in 1949 by the late James King Bonnar and a small group of interested artists for the purpose of stimulating and encouraging the expression of fine arts in the Newton community. The Association presents a regular series of programs on the second Thursday of the month from September through May, at the Newton Senior Center, 345 Walnut Street in Newtonville. Outstanding New England artists present their work and demonstrate their techniques for the membership and friends. The Association also organizes critiques, lectures, workshops and exhibits for its members throughout the year. For more information visit www.newtonartassociation.com.
