Meet the Author Program--Yetti Frenkel
Author and illustrator Yetti Frenkel will read from her picture storybooks, The Big Blue Lump and Trudy and the Captain's Cat. After hearing these delightful stories children will make a craft.

Children’s Room Ninth Annual Poetry Fest
Put your poem in print by participating in the Children’s Room Ninth Annual Poetry Fest. One original poem per child (under 17 years old) will be accepted for the journal Write Now!, with a submission deadline of Friday, March 25. A celebration will be held the evening of Monday, May 2, when all young poets will receive a copy of Write Now! Fifty children will be previously chosen to read their poems that evening. Children must be residents of Newton or students at Newton Schools. For more information, please see the flyer in the Children’s Room, or the Children’s Room website.

Mother Goose Asks, “Why?”
A Reading and Science Activity Program for Young Families
Mother Goose Asks, “Why?” is a family literacy program for children and their caregivers, that uses fantastic picture books and fun hands-on activities to introduce and emphasize science concepts to children.
6-8 year olds: Wednesdays at 7:00PM March 2, 9, 16, 23 Registration begins Monday, Feb. 14
Mother Goose Programs are developed by the Vermont Center for the Book. They are supported in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the Massachusetts Center for the Book and federally funded with LSTA funds through the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Children's Poet
Paul Janeczko
Makes Appearance
W.I.N.G.S., Writers and Illustrators for Newton enGaging Students, presents the second in its series of programs for students and their families. On Wednesday, March 9, at 7:00PM, Paul Janeczko, award-winning poet and anthologist from Maine, will speak at the Library, followed by a booksigning. The event is geared for students in grades 2 - 8.
Janeczko’s outstanding books include A Poke in the I, Top Secret: A Handbook of Codes, Ciphers, and Secret Writing and Worlds Afire.
W.I.N.G.S. is a series jointly presented by the library teachers of the Newton Public Schools and the children’s librarians of this Library with the mission of bringing children's authors and illustrators to share their craft with the public and school children of Newton. The project is supported by a grant from the Newton Schools Foundation.
