The Friends are a volunteer group supporting the library through many types of fundraising, including book sales, the gift and book carts, memberships, and the annual Book and Author Luncheon. Every year, in addition to contributing money for the collections throughout the library, the Friends make a special donation to support programs in the Children's Room. This year, these funds enabled children to meet real owls and learn about their habits, to hear music from the rainforest and play instruments crafted from recycled materials, and to enjoy puppet shows and other special programs.
We hope you and your child(ren) enjoy the many books and activities the library offers our younger patrons:
- Books of all kinds: fiction, non-fiction, picture books, easy reader and beginning chapter books, folk and fairy tales, foreign language books, circulating and non-circulating reference books. The librarians can provide lists of recommended books by grade level and subject and are always happy to help you find just the right book.
- The children's section also includes a large audiovisual collection, Playaways, CDs, cassettes, audio books, videos, DVDs, and media kits. Many programs are offered for children of all ages. These events include story times, writing, crafts, preschool singalongs, and films.
- All library programs are free.
In our role as supporters, we would like to invite you to join us by taking out an annual Friends' membership. Besides providing much needed support for the library, such a membership gives you our monthly library newsletter and calendar so you won't miss any upcoming events. To further entice you, for each new membership, we will place the name of your child or family on a book plate in one of the children's books. What fun for your child to know that his/her name will be added to a book!
