The Newton Free Library Children's Department is a vibrant place for the whole family! We strive to promote a life long love of reading through innovative programs and a high quality collection. The Department serves kids (newborns through 8th grade), along with their parents, caregivers, and educators. 

Our Collection
Our expansive collection includes books, magazines, music, audio books, video games and movies. We also offer books, movies and music in a variety of languages, including Chinese, Hebrew, Korean, Russian and Spanish. The staff is here to help you enjoy your library, find materials and answer any questions.

Programs
Programs are offered for children of all ages. These include storytimes, writing, crafts, science, and many wonderful performances.

Schools and Outreach
We collaborate with local early childhood educators, providing visits to preschools to share stories and loaning librarian selected picture book bags for classrooms and centers. We also work closely with the Newton Public Schools and visit every class to share great books and discuss summer reading.

This great group is ready to help you at the Library by making suggestions on reading material to checking out your books for you to take home!

• No running and noisy play
• Eating is allowed in library facilities only for sponsored functions and within proscribed space constraints. Eating and drinking are not allowed near computers in the library.
• Library staff members are not responsible for the care of unsupervised children, except when minors are participating in a scheduled library program. Children aged eight and under may not be left unattended. Lost or unattended children aged eight and under will be returned to their parents or caregivers. Children under the age of 12 may not act as caregivers for younger children. If a responsible adult has not been located within one hour, or if the library is closing, the police may be called. Under no circumstances will a staff member take a child out of a library facility or transport a child to another location.
• The parents or caregivers of children who are disrupting other's use of the library will be asked to take them out of the library if the disruptive behavior cannot be controlled.
• Preschoolers must have an adult accompany them while using library computers.
• Shoes must be worn in the library for the safety of library patrons and staff. Cleats and skates are not permitted in library buildings.
• Out of courtesy for all patrons of the Library, please limit cell phone use to the lobby.
